P. Tyson Bennett is the managing partner of the Annapolis office of Carney, Kelehan, Bresler, Bennett and Scherr. Mr. Bennett’s practice focuses on education law, disabilities law, employment law and zoning.
In the area of education, Mr. Bennett has served as a member of a county school board and as a local education hearing examiner. In his current client work, he represents private and public educational institutions and interests throughout Maryland. He has counseled local school boards for more than twenty-five years.
Mr. Bennett has represented employers and employees in labor and employment disputes for more than a quarter of a century. His work in this field includes assisting clients with federal and state claims.
To his clients in the area of zoning law, Mr. Bennett brings the benefit of his time on the staff of the Anne Arundel County Office of Planning and Zoning and at the Administrative Hearing Office. He also spent 15 years as the attorney for the County Board of Appeals.
Mr. Bennett also has vast disabilities law experience, having litigated numerous cases in the state and federal trial and appellate courts.
Mr. Bennett is past president of the Education Law Association, an international organization composed of school administrators, school attorneys and professors of education and law. He is a member of the National School Boards Association Council of School Attorneys and is a past president of the Maryland Council of Local School Board Attorneys. Mr. Bennett lectures widely on disabilities and other school law issues around the country and has taught or lectured at Johns Hopkins University, the University of Washington, Penn State University, George Washington University and the Franklin Pierce Law Center.
