B. Darren Burns’ practice centers on litigation and includes commercial construction, employment, business and real estate law as well as contract issues. He has represented local governments and officials in tort and civil rights litigation.
Mr. Burns is also an experienced education lawyer, having served for six years as the in-house counsel for the Anne Arundel County Public Schools. Mr. Burns represents various boards of education and private clients in courts throughout the state, as well as in federal court and in administrative proceedings.
In the areas of arbitration and mediation, Mr. Burns’ private clients include builders, developers, contractors, retail businesses, restaurants, residential property owners, and private schools. He advises these clients on business formation and regulatory issues, including matters involving various Anne Arundel County and City of Annapolis agencies. In addition, he has handled family law cases for a number of clients.
Mr. Burns served as a law clerk for the Hon. Robert H. Heller, Jr. in the Circuit Court for Anne Arundel County. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for his community association, coaches youth sports for his four children and continues to play in the Maryland Masters Lacrosse League.
