Karen Ellsworth has a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in Business Administration from Lake Superior State University in addition to her law degree from Michigan State University College of Law, where she concentrated in taxation law. She anticipates receiving her LL.M in Taxation in December 2009 from the University of Baltimore School of Law. Her background in business and tax enables her to meet a wide range of client needs and makes her a particularly valuable member of the Carney Kelehan team.
Ms. Ellsworth represents clients in corporate matters, including formation of corporations and limited liability companies, transfer of interests in business entities and general business representation. She also handles matters involving commercial real estate financing, including transactions involving HUD - financed and Freddie Mac - financed multifamily housing projects.
Ms. Ellsworth has represented taxpayers in disputes with the Internal Revenue Service and provided advice on tax matters such as tax-exempt organizations, retirement plans and qualified and non-qualified stock options. Her knowledge of tax law also provides clients with special expertise in business transactions.
